Donald Glover Shouts out Migos at Golden Globe Awards

Donald Glover cleaned up at the Golden Globe Awards taking home 2 awards for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

The fact that a show about the darker side of Atlanta won a GGA is amazing in itself, but what was even more amazing is that Donald Glover thanked the trap royalty group Migos for making the ratchet and catchy “Bad and Boujee”! The Migos are most known for continuously releasing club smashed like “Versace” and  “Look at my dab”, which have fared extremely well in the streaming world.

It could be quite surprising that Glover (also known in the rap world as Childish Gambino) likes The Migos at all, as much of his music is eclectic and further away from lines like “…cookin up dope wit’ an oozey…”. However, it’s likely not surprising to those that inhabit Atlanta. They know it as a mix between a false (but very in your face) entertainment paradise, all held up by drug dealers and working folks who just happen to mostly be black.

Donald Glover also sent a major shout out to the entire city of Atlanta, and the people that influence the show. During the 2nd award he humbly thanked his child, and told a story about his father motivating him to achieve more, without knowing if he actually would or not.

All in all, black people won last night. Actors like Viola Davis and Mahershala Ali scooped up awards and represented a strong culture of emotionally involved professionals who feel fortunate to be in the film world.

As far Atlanta, it’s been set to start a season 2 on FX in 2017. In the meantime, do yourself a favor and binge-watch every episode. It will not disappoint.
